Free Rice

A few weeks ago I attended my first GRE Prep. class. In an attempt to pinpoint my IQ, the GRE Test makers have decided that it is necessary to test me on my knowledge of the English language and the vast amount of words that make it up.

In order to learn more vocabulary before the monstrosity of a test they call the GRE, I was on the quest to find some helpful tools.

The teacher of the course mentioned freerice.com. I thought it an odd name for a vocabulary review website. And, it is odd. It's odd because it isn't an ordinary vocabulary tool - it's more a feeding tool.

The UN World Food Program has partnered with this website to donate 20 grains of rice for every right answer for vocabulary questions on their website. The more you answer correctly, the more people get fed. Unfortunately for those who love a challenge, it doesn't get any more difficult than: right answers = food for the hungry.

No greater incentive to learn than food - especially for those in desparate need of it.
